It’s no secret. Around here, we like Halloween. There are a number of fun activities going on in the Williston area that we know about, and probably even more we don’t know about yet! We thought we would list a few here and encourage you to check our event calendar (www.visitwilliston.com/calendar) for updates on other spooky fun events as time goes on.

First up is an event we produce here at the CVB in partnership with Williston Basin United Way, the 2nd Annual 5k Zombie Challenge. This fun run takes place in and around Spring Lake Park, but unlike regular fun runs, you may find yourself running faster rather than slower without a time clock. In this 5k, you must traverse several zombie infested areas. Zombies are volunteers on a mission to snatch the race flags from around a belt each runner picks up at the beginning of the race. They will chase you through the course, so watch your step. Anyone who makes it through the course with a flag still attached to their belt is entered in a prize drawing.

New this year, we have revised the course so that runners will not be crossing any major roads or contending with traffic outside the park. To make up the distance, we added some trail and terrain challenge components to the course. Although families are welcome, please note there are a couple spots on the course that are not stroller friendly and/or where young kids may require assistance.

The 5k Zombie Challenge is scheduled for October 25, rain or shine, at 5:30pm. A chili feed is scheduled for after the race. Want to be a zombie? Get in touch! Want to be a runner? You can participate either solo or as part of Zombie Outbreak Response Team (limit 6 per team) for a nice $5 discount. Proceeds from this fun run benefit Williston Basin United Way. Find the registration form, here, and turn it in to the CVB at 212 Airport Rd once you have it filled out.

Next is an event that gained a huge following in 2013, Dark Acres Haunted Corn Maze on the north side of town. This year, it will run for three weekends (Friday & Saturday) from 7-11pm in October: 10-11, 17-18 and 24-25. With both live actors and animated props, this haunted house and corn maze will keep you guessing, and screaming, every step of the way. Not recommended for young children. Price is $10 per person and at certain times, come prepared to wait. It is all part of the experience! To get there, head north on Highway 2 (2nd Ave North) and turn left as if you are going to L & K Electric or Gooseneck Implement. There will be a sign marking the entrance to the Corn Maze.

On October 31, the Williston Downtowners Association sponsors the Trail of Treats, another local favorite that has been a community tradition for years. This event provides a safe and fun daytime trick-or-treating experience for kids ages 12 and under and their chaperones, 2:30-5:30pm. Kids love the chance to dress up and see how other kids are dressed up, as well. Any participating businesses will have a poster in their window. As you shop and eat in downtown Williston in October, you will start to see the posters pop up!

As we get more information on community Halloween activities, we will add them to our event calendar. Have a fun and safe Halloween!
