Interior image of Fort Buford
Visit the historic site of Fort Buford, a military installation best known as the place where the Hunkpapa Lakota leader Sitting Bull turned over his rifle in 1881. It was built to protect land and river routes traveled by settlers moving west. Learn about the “Buffalo Soldiers” who served here and tour the original site to see a stone powder magazine and officers’ quarters which now house a museum.
